So I have seen ads for this upcoming show on the history channel called "Nostradamus 2012" and it's supposed to be about how he predicted the world will end in 2012 and so did the Mayans. I wanna know what possessed these morons to even produce this show. Don't they realize that some of us value life and would like to not have to worry about dying? I mean seriously, how stupid can these twats be? It's like how Al Gore told us about global warming in a movie, except a thousand times worse. If they are that out of ideas then start re-running programs or think of something cool like the history of.... video games or.... movies or something that has nothing to do with the world ending. I guarantee the only reason they decided to actual air this crap is for ratings. If you're that desperate then you need to take a truck load of Prozac and chill out and realize that the History channel will not be going down the drain. They had cool programs like WW2 history, the Vietnam footage DVD that I never got the chance to actually buy, and that show that talked about the relations of Star Wars to Greek mythology and WW2. So my question is.... why can't we just enjoy life without you guys coming in to ruin it? You're like Buzz Killington! You may as well come along and say, "Guess what we just made cancer air born and contagious!" (Patton Oswalt). ... ... ... Tell me am I the only one whose brain functions anymore?!?!?!?!?! |

I don't like such programs either. Another thing that bothers me is the LHC machine. There's so many doomsday theories behind it, it's kind of scary. I'm guessing all the media is doing is making us focus on how we are going to die; what will kill us; will it be a meteor, will it be a nuclear war, etc, rather than focus on the positive in life. I'd like to live for another 60 or 70 years, but with all this crap on tv about global warming, meteors, doomsday machines, prophecies, etc, it's kind of hard to focus on that. It's like our generation is screwed no matter what we do. Edited by Maya Natsume, Jan 1 2009, 10:54 AM.

Hmm I have to say I hate every damn program that has ever aired and said "This world will end" Like no fucking way! I think I just want to live to 80 if possible >.>, and in response to Maya, I believe the damn media just wants more people to suffer than people would start to do crazy things out there, There are evil fuckers out there who just want "us" to be depressed and to worry all the time. But if the world will really end, I guess I'll go with it as a lunatic with a clean conscious if it's ever possible. Well I said my thoughts. |

I'd rather have Isaac Newton's prediction because I would be... 60 or 70 and at that point I think I would not care that much. They're just trying to tell our generation we're screwed, but they're okay so ha-ha. |

All of the programs that are telling you the world is going to end 2012 and all is going to die is a bunch of hogwash from politics and media. Their idea is more of a fearmongoring to make you believe such a fallacy so that everyone feels hopeless and defenseless. If you study the ancient celtics, druids, egyptians, pagans and other cultures and religions, they all have a parallel congruency towards a shift in consciousness which complies with the fibonacci sequence. When they say end of the world, they mean end of the world as we know it, that being, the world which we have taken preconceived definitions of and accepted to be true. What nobody wants to tell anyone is that our consciousness shapes our reality. Many ancient mystery schools in the past which have practiced sacred pythagoras geometry, sacred healing techniques and teachings which gave people the understanding of their existence and awareness of their being. Most of this has been destroyed because the all enlightened ones felt that the rest of humanity was too immature to handle the truth and kept everyone in ignorance so they can obtain the masters of the world. This has been in the works for thousands of years and still continues to this day. Those who know the truth are silenced, killed, and marplotted by elites and ostracized from society when trying to wake people up or present a fragment of truth to allow someone the opportunity to think for themselves. I'm sure everyone has heard the Descartes quote " I think therefore I am," which relates to the law of attraction. This meaning, if you think something bad is going to happen or that something is bad, that's how you're going to see it and what you will manifest in your life. If you believe beyond that and see that everything is good and love no matter how evil the deed may be perceived, nothing can conquer you nor will any evil succeed in having a hand on your life. The key to this is, everything you do, learn, understand, and feel effects your life and only your life and you can change all the negativity in it at any given moment. 2012 is merely a shift in the ages from the zodiac calendar from Pices to Aquarius, and with that comes a shift in consciousness. We've been warned countless times about evil forces attempting to take over the world and bringing the end to all humanity. In the end, people who love always win and expunge the megalomaniacs. Time, money, jobs, and the satisfaction of having material desires over our natural bonds is irrelevant anymore and that's the world we've been living in for so long based upon what a select few with their holy bloodlines and distorted applications of the truth have placed before us. Ancient cultures, mystery religions, and other civilizations knew about this from the start and have warned everyone, yet hardly anyone takes any of the heeds into consideration and pass it on as simple curiosity. This information is in the bulk for people to find out for themselves so long as they do their own research, thinking, and question beyond the dogma and what they were taught to be true all their lives. With learning it, there is a yin and yang where there is a very mucky pessimistic side to learning the truth and beyond that it will enlighten you to the greatest bit of knowledge you can have. It's all a matter of do you want to know it or not. After all, truth reveals itself whether we want it or not. Edited by wasted ninja, Jan 1 2009, 04:28 PM.

I believe that a great disaster is necessary maybe kill off half of at least America. Yellowstone park had quite a few earthquakes recently more than usual so I'm really hoping that the Yellowstone caldera wipes out half of america and blocks out the sun for a few weeks that would be lovely, If more people die the people who did not die live better its a balance ancient societies didn't sacrifice people for no reason there is a balance to this world and it must be maintained. I believe anarchy is the best solution to this world at its current pace considering how uptight it has become just look at the dark ages too much uptight shit brought the world to its knees in a long drawn out bloody rapefest. Also to respond to wasted ninja that quote "I think therefore I am" relates to a quantum theory stating that reality is shaped by our minds which reminds me of a quote "if you were the only man in this world that was sane they would lock you away". What I'm getting at is that reality is based on public opinion if everyone in the general group believes it is wrong to perform a certain action or differ from the norm then it is so. They use these TV specials to point out the crackpots who believe that the world may end in some biblical way when you should be looking at what man is capable of i.e. Large Hadron Collider or what nature could do it a heartbeat such as the Yellowstone caldera these are not thing I have to worry about because I don't live near Yellowstone or France/Switzerland so I'm good for those of you who do live near those places haha and goodbye |

In response to your statement "Reality is based on public opinion. If everyone in the general group believes it is wrong to perform a certain action or differ from the norm then it is so." By this do you mean your example represents the current state of how people are perceiving reality or do you mean this is how reality is altogether? The first half I can agree with, but the second half presents a bandwagon fallacy that is inconsistent with the nature of different cultures. e.g. In the united states we condemn older men at age 30 dating 13 year old girls whereas over in Laos or Cambodia it is very normal for young girls at that age to marry much older men because their philosophy is that an older man is mature and stable enough to support the woman. (There were legal issues about this in the states when Laos immigrants came here after serving in the Vietnam war) |

Reality my good sir is a group opinion and so is sanity. They are defined by society and the boundaries placed around said opinions anything that differs is considered to be delusions or psychosis. Religion is one of the first establishments to ever start setting boundaries and back then it was called heresy these days you can be called anything from a common criminal to a terrorist. Better yet the definition of some titles blur very easily such as "pedophile" being as such a man who is 18 could sleep with his 16 year old girlfriend and then be labeled as a pedophile thus being treated the same as a man who raped small children. I must ask you a question and I want you to really think it through. Why is a raven like a writing desk? |

Again even furthering your thesis it still remains a bandwagon fallacy that is completely enhanced by subjectivity. Now anyone who exceeds beyond the boundaries of what someone else claims to be impossible and the person who thinks they can accomplish said task is prone to be labeled as delusional for proving that person wrong and by having the belief and motivation to do so in the first place. This by which supposedly governs the whole truth that the person is delusional even though the action nullified the claim. Unfortunately I must be labeled delusional now for not trusting the public opinion because they believe I should jump off a bridge and die because they claim I must be some alien from another planet for learning how to play a song on guitar that they felt was impossible. The argument is clearly incoherent. As for the Red Herring fallacy you presented, in which the question "Why is a raven like a writing desk?" came from Alice in Wonderland, my answer to that is find your own answer to the question instead of accepting preconceived definitions from either Alice, the Mad Hatter, Lewis Carroll, or what everyone else thinks the answer to be true is. |
